The SNMA/LMSA Panel at LSU-Baton Rouge was a huge success! We were so happy to return to our alma mater and speak to students that look like us. I remember being in those same seats listening to LSUHSC medical students encourage me, answer all of my questions/curiosities, and give me advice to help strengthen my application. • And this past Friday, we were those medical students giving advice to our younger selves. It was honestly such a great experience! My first job is to be a medical student, but I’ll never decline an opportunity to help others get to where I am.👩🏽‍⚕️🌸 • Adding pictures from the panel on my story! #premedstudent #premedlife #futuredoctors #womeninmedicine #medstudents #mentorship #blackdoctors #blackhistorymonth #blackdoctorsmatter #lsualumni

Happy MLK Day! ➖ “Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ➖ Medical school is challenging and so is any professional school one decides to pursue. I’ve recently found myself with a handful of responsibilities and what seems like little to no time. Although grateful, I’ve been noticing my frustration more and more lately. ➖ Reading this short quote, not only made me smile, but also gave me everything I needed to hear. I hope it does the same for anyone else that needs the same motivation and confidence to keep pushing!✨ #mlkquotes #mlkday #medicine #medstudentlife #premedmotivation #nola #womeninmedicine
That big smile after a successful Preceptorship😊 • Between the fall and spring semester, all first year medical students are required to complete a preceptorship with a physician of our choice. • The speciality I went with was Dermatology! I learned so much in just 2 days. Not just about dermatology, but most importantly, invaluable lessons on becoming an effective physician for my patients. Dermatology isn’t just blackheads and pimples. • I saw everything from shingles and acne treatment to Botox injections and laser resurfacing. I even assisted in multiple Mohs surgeries (used to treat skin cancer)! Needless to say, there was never a dull moment and every case differed from the last. Dermatology seems to encompass everything that I love: clinic, surgery, and making people feel their best!✨ #medicalstudent #premed #medicine #dermatology #scrublife #skincare #skin #blackdoctors #futuredoctor #doctorgoals #womeninstem #futuremd
Wishing you all great health, prosperity, and inner happiness in 2019✨ ➖ For me, 2019 will be the year of focus, productivity, and self-care. ➖ Join me in reviving old goals, accomplishing current goals, and creating new ones! #newyear #nye #newgoals #medicine #premed #medschool #medstudent #2019 #nola #medschoollife
Can I be a surgeon now? ➖ In the midst of studying for finals, we welcomed a much needed study break and learned how to scrub in for surgery this week! Surgeons make it look so easy but let me tell you, I have a way deeper appreciation for hand washing after this skills lab. And let’s not even talk about self gowning and gloving 😅 What I learned: 1. Scrubbing in requires washing hands for a minimum of 5 minutes. 2. Starting from pinky finger and working towards thumb, you must scrub each surface of each digit 10 times. 3. Once you’re clean and sterile, you cannot touch anything outside of the sterile field. Can’t even scratch an itch. If you do, you have the process all over! 4. I wear a size 5.5 glove 😊 #medicine #surgery #womeninsurgery #premed #medicalschool #mcat #blackdoctors #minoritiesinmedicine #womeninstem #doctor #futuredoctor #scrubs #scrublife
